From Hocus Pocus to Coraline, the selection of movies for Halloween time are usually superior. Although they master getting viewers into the thrilling October mood, unfortunately many have become outdated. Kids may no longer appreciate the monochrome films like “The Addams Family" or the nostalgic, "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown”. Therefore, it is time for new Halloween movies.

This Fall, “Beetlejuice” is back to haunt and entertain your screens. Although characters Lydia and Delia Deetz will return to the big screen, we are getting new characters like Astrid Deetz, who is played by actress Jenna Ortega. Ortega has experience acting in creepy films after playing Wednesday Addams in the Netflix series “Wednesday”. The film follows a family tragedy which results in the three generations of the Deetz family returning to their home in Winter River. The difference in this sequel is that Ortega’s character, Astrid, will accidentally open the portal to the afterlife which instigates Beetlejuice.

From a book, to a mini series, and now it is becoming a movie… “Salem’s Lot”, the 1975 Stephan King novel, will also make its debut this Fall. Starring actors Lewis Pullman, Bill Camp, and Spencer Treat Clark, this film will certainly put viewers into a thrilling mood. “Salem’s Lot” follows author Ben Mears, played by Lewis Pullman, who returns to his childhood home where he discovers bloodsucking vampires feeding on his town. Many are excited for this film to debut because the producing team reunites the creators of the movies, “The Conjuring” and “It”. This film will not be coming out in theaters, instead it will premiere through streaming.

The earnest and haunting film “Handling the Undead” tells the story of three families interposed with chaos when their deceased loved one arises from the dead and returns to them. Based on the novel, “Let the Right One In” by John Ajvide Lindqvist, this movie is not the typical horror. This movie focuses on the grief of losing a loved one in the context of  a zombie apocalypse.
